The Big Idea Bookstore & Cafe is hosting Globalization 101 a.k.a. Neo-Colonialism in the 21st Century, this Wednesday, Dec. 4 from 7-9pm.
The event is “Facilitated by anupama (anu) jain (Visiting Scholar with the Pitt Humanities Center & Coordinator of the Pittsburgh Coalition for Racial Justice). This workshop will focus on the ways in which globalization is both celebrated and debated. As the world becomes more interconnected and inequalities intensify, globalization can be seen as a new form for colonizing and imperialist power.
At the same time, the world wide web has enabled people to start global activist movements, to break silences, and to show solidarity. Looking at a few different geopolitical cases, we will have an interactive group discussion in which we try to better understand how these processes work and consider how they impact (or not) our own lives.”
